Artist Statement

"Forefathers III makes use of theĀ 1593 illustrations of the 'Pintados' (tattooed Filipinos). The geometric patterns in orange and manganese blue echo the tattoo patterns. Note the scripts 'Sinacop and Bayan' (Captured People) across the upper half-tonne figure. Prayer scripts are strewn all over the lower plane, expressive of how the Spanish religious propaganda had reconditioned the native mind for centuries until the present."
