Impressions and Viewpoints: Prints from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum Collection

July 18, 2024 - October 29, 2025

Impressions: Prints from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) Collection displays a wide range of printmaking techniques practiced by generations of artists in Philippine contemporary printmaking. Featuring selections from the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 21AM Collection, the works serve as illustrative examples of fine art prints, such as relief, intaglio, and serigraph.

Printmaking techniques vary based on the process used to make multiples from a matrix or original template. Relief printmaking cuts away at the print surface to leave only the image, as seen in woodcuts and rubbercuts. Intaglio printmaking, on the other hand, involves incising the surface that holds the ink, as seen in drypoint and etching. Serigraph printing, a stencil-based technique, allows ink to pass through a silkscreen.

Featured prints in this exhibition are from 25@45 and 20/30, commemorative print folios produced for the CCP’s 45th and 50th anniversaries, respectively. The print folios were produced in partnership with the Association of Pinoyprintmakers or AP, an organization composed of artists with a special interest in the practice of printmaking, founded in 1968 .

Viewpoints: Prints from the CCP 21st Century Art Museum (21AM) Collection features a diverse selection of prints by contemporary artists. From abstractions and self portraits to images of daily life, the works in this exhibition explore a wide range of themes through various fine art printmaking techniques.

Printmaking techniques vary depending on how multiples are created from a matrix or original template. Woodcuts and rubbercuts are examples of the relief printmaking technique, which cuts away from the print surface to leave the image. In contrast, intaglio printmaking entails incising the surface that retains ink, seen in drypoint and etching. Serigraph printmaking is a stencil-based technique that involves ink passing through a silkscreen.

The featured prints are from 20/30: A Limited Edition Print Portfolio, a commemorative folio created for the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ 50th anniversary in 2019. The print folios were produced  in partnership with the Association of Pinoyprintmakers, an organization composed of artists with a special interest in the practice of printmaking, founded in 1968.
